Title: Executive Director

Reports to: Chair of the Board of Directors

Position Summary: Responsible for directing or delegating the development, implementation
and evaluation of the following areas: program service delivery, financial management,
fundraising and resource development, strategic planning, workforce management, board of
directors’ development, and marketing, including public relations and networking.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum Bachelor’s degree in human service or administrative field; Master’s degree
    preferred.
  2. Experience or training in fundraising and development.
  3. Experience or training in leadership and management
  4. Experience or training in non-profit program administration.
  5. Knowledge of housing/homelessness issues.
  6. Commitment to cultural humility.
  7. An understanding of and a commitment to the mission of Bridge of Hope Harrisburg.
  8. Active member of a Christian congregation that confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and
    Savior, with a strong personal faith experience.
  9. Strong communications skills, oral and written.
  10. Position requires a valid driver’s license and the availability of a vehicle.

Priority given to applicants with experience in small, faith-based, nonprofit organizations.

Hours: 40 hours/week; flexible schedule, must be available some weekends and evenings.

Location: Residing in or willing to relocate within affiliate service area (Cumberland, Dauphin,
York counties)

Compensation: salary range starts at $75,000, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising and Resource Development (35% of time)
    • Actively promote and nurture the board members’ fundraising efforts.
    • Encourage financial support of Bridge of Hope through contacts with Christian
      faith communities, businesses, community organizations and individuals.
    • Write or oversee the writing of proposals for grants from private funding sources.
    • Coordinate fundraising events with staff, board, and volunteers. Attendance at
      these fundraising events is required.
    • Continually expand Bridge of Hope’s donor base.
    • Conduct personal visits with major donors and potential donors, as appropriate.
    • Nurture relationships with donors and potential donors, including relationships
      with foundation personnel, church representatives, individuals and business
      contacts.
  • Program and Service Delivery (20% of time)
    • Implement and monitor the mission of Bridge of Hope as directed through the
      policies and goals of the board.
    • Supervise the program staff, in person and remotely.
    • Oversee the recruitment of groups of Neighboring Volunteers.
    • Lead weekly staff meetings.
    • Provide visionary oversight of program direction, development and
      implementation.
  • Board of Directors Development (15% of time)
    • Prepare a monthly report on activities and a statistic sheet of time management for
      the board.
    • Participate in policy formulation with the board of directors; serves as ex-officio
      member of board committees. Attend monthly board meetings and board
      committee meetings.
    • Actively participate with the nominating committee in recommending members
      for the board, as well as recruiting, orienting and training board members.
    • Actively foster positive relationships with all board members and board
      leadership
  • Workforce Management (10% of time)
    • Maintain accurate records for statistical purposes.
    • Advertise, interview (or delegate), hire, and orient staff. Make final hiring and
      firing decisions for all staff and report changes to the board.
    • After each staff person’s three-month probationary period, evaluate the staff who
      report to the executive director. Thereafter, evaluation of staff is held on the
      anniversary of employment.
    • Conduct meetings with support staff and volunteers, as needed to communicate
      the goals and vision of Bridge of Hope.
    • Address potential burn-out issues pro-actively for staff. This will be done through
      policy implementation, modeling holistic work patterns and implementing staff
      renewal plans to reduce stress and promote a healthy, balanced work
      environment.
    • Supervise staff who report directly to the executive director.
    • Promote cohesiveness and healthy collaboration among staff.
  • Marketing/Networking (10% of time)
    • Present and/or delegate presentations about Bridge of Hope’s program to churches
      and community organizations through displays and public speaking opportunities.
    • Serve as an ambassador for spreading the word about Bridge of Hope’s larger
      network, including speaking well of each location and Bridge of Hope National
      and working closely with Bridge of Hope National for building program
      excellence.
    • Establish and maintain interagency communication.
    • Oversee the publication of a quarterly newsletter.
    • Write or assign a writer for articles for publication in appropriate periodicals and
      papers.
    • Attend Bridge of Hope National Conference and other relevant conferences,
      workshops, and seminars for additional training and/or to educate the community
      about Bridge of Hope.
    • Initiate the planning and designing of promotional materials
  • Financial Management (5% of time)
    • Prepare annual budget for review and approval by the finance committee and
      board.
    • Monitor income and expenditures to maintain the budget. Submit a monthly
      financial report to the board.
    • Reviewing monthly bank statements.
    • Coordinate professional services as specified by the board (i.e. certified public accountant, lawyer, etc.).
  • Strategic Planning (5% of time)
    • Work closely with the executive committee of the board to develop and evaluate
      the strategic plan and the planning process.
    • Solicit and gather staff and volunteer input for the strategic plan.
    • Oversee the implementation of the strategic plan, as instructed by the board chair
      and executive committee
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Keep abreast of developments within the fields of nonprofit management,
      fundraising, development and homelessness.
    • Direct and supervise all on-going activities within the framework of the mission
      and the strategic plan of Bridge of Hope.
