In 2007 a group of women joined together to address the growing need for homelessness services for single women and children in the Harrisburg area. They joined the Bridge of Hope network, officially making Bridge of Hope Harrisburg Area a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. By 2009, a Director was hired shortly after the first family was served.
A steady increase in the number of families served and financial support generated over the years have led Bridge of Hope Harrisburg Area to its current operations in Dauphin, Cumberland, and York Counties with one full-time Executive Director and three part-time staff members. We have been serving homeless single mothers with children for over ten years and are now in three counties!
When a single mother is homeless, every aspect of life becomes complicated. How will she feed her family? Where will they sleep each night? Will they be safe? If she finds a job, how will she get there? Where will the children go to daycare or school? How will they all get ready for the day?
The first step toward ending and preventing homelessness for homeless single mothers and their children is to “House A Family.” When the family has the security and stability of a home, it has the foundation needed to rebuild its life. Support a family today by giving a monthly or one-time gift.
